OK, a few mins ago, I got my bird cockatiel out of her cage. She started to fly around the room a few times. I noticed I left my door open and I had 2 of our cats staring at her flying. To my horror, she tried to land on the door, but sliped and fell a foot or two from the cats. I landed heavily on the ground on my knees between the two, so they wouldnt pounce and kill her. The cats got spooked from my landing so suddenly and backed off. My bird flew away into the room again. But I noticed that 6 of her very long tail feathers were on the floor. My knee must of pinned her tail feathers to the ground and she freaked out and tore herself away. Now she has just some short tail feathers left on her bum.
She is acting pretty normal; I dont see any bleeding. But should I be worring about an infection? Internal bleeding?
I dont know what I'd do if she died or anything
What should I do?

Can she still fly? I think it is OK if they lose a few feathers as long as they dont seem to be in any pain. I hope she is OK. Im glad you got her away from your cats.

ok at one time I wanted to be a vet so i know a bit about animals. clean her tail and bum off with a wet cloth and put her back were she should be. watch her for a bit and for a few days. if at any time she acts odd or not how she usually does take her to a vet right away.

I hope she's all right.

she wil be fine those are her flight control feathers ...basically acts as a rudder of sorts for the air... birds loose those all the time and they do do grow back over time.... dont worry but keep an eye anyways... but it is normal that they loose those from time to time... regardless of the fact that they were puled out...
i used to own one of those birds and it somewhat molted on the hind end...didnt really fly much at the time but when they started to grow back they were short but it still flew fine

My best advice is to take her to the vent asap to see if she has gotten any internal damages as well as stress related ones..I hope she'll be ok..Please keep us informed

Thanks everyone!
Ran some warm water over her last night. She seems fine, but I'll keep an eye her for a bit.
