i was wondering a few things.

one: how many people on here got fursuits? can i see some pics of 'em?

two: never made on before. how much does it cost? how time consuming is it? where can i get more information? where can i get materials?

thanks.

I've made a few partial suits before. Ear and tail sets, mostly. The occasional paws here and there. I don't have pictures though.

Cost depends on what you're making, naturally full suits cost more, as do ones with a lot of detailing. They also take longer than partials. Time also depends on your level of skill.

You're probably gonna end up hand sewing whatever you're making. Most sewing machines can't handle fur. Some do, but you have to check, otherwise you'd risk ruining both the material and the machine. You can find fake fur at fabric stores.

This website offers some tips, as well as patterns for ears and a canine tail.

Don't have one. I was supposed to have one commissioned, but I haven't heard from the seller in over a year. That was my first and last transaction on FurBid.

As for the cost, it pretty much depends on the suit. I've seen head and paw sets for as low as fifty dollars, and full costumes going for close to a thousand. It depends entirely on what kind of suit you're looking for.

Regarding cost, material quality is another thing. (No, I do NOT mean real fur...)
The type of backing for the material will have an effect on cost, or so I've seen.

I've made quite a few full suits.

On average, the minimum cost for a full fursuit is $500, but most of the good well-known makers like Lacey, Bladespark, or LatinVixen are around a thousand.

My suits are somewhere in between on price, though leaning more toward the lower end. I'd say for me anywhere between $500 and $700 depending on the complexity of the character, whether the head has a cooling system, and the availability of fur(whether I can get it locally or if I have to order it online).

Wow. Fursuits sure can get expensive.

But I have the cheapest method in making a costume.

*grabs white blanket and covers himself*

Look.. I'm a ghost!!! Took a few seconds to make and cost me less than $10.

That is just about the best fursuit site out there. You can contact makers or learn how to make one yourself.

(and no we're not pervs there, it is a pg13 site)

Nice job on the fursuits, PariahPoet! :o

The only thing I made was a tail because I wanted to be a wolf for Halloween one year and all they had were cat or mouse tails. It came out farily nice, though I dyed it with halloween black hair spray and it made the butt of :o my jeans all black. But it was a cool effect because the tail didnt turn out black but a greyish color like a real wolfs tail.

hey pariahpoet, i have a question.
on that jaguarundi suit, is the jaw articulated? does the jaw move when you talk or anything like that?

Posted: Fri Nov 03, 2006 11:48 pm
by PariahPoet
Sure does. :D
It fits so close to my jaw I don't even need bands to keep it closed. *grin*
But then I put bands on commissioned suits anyway just because I don't have the person there to try it on every five minutes to get that kind of precision.

Well, prices vary depending on what you want, the availability of the fur I'd be using, and whether you want any electrical stuff (fans, lights, etc.)
I'd say minimum for a full suit would be $500 if I can find the fur in my area, the markings are simple, and if you don't want fans.
I can also do partials or make it piece by piece to make it a bit easier on the budget, because I know it can be tough to get together that much money at once.

But, perhaps if you're still interested we could discuss the details in PM?
