I suspect that would be related to how much human intelligence the Female retained, as well as the father.
Humans (very oddly) enjoy passing Junior around among family and such, while a wolf mother will only allow her most trusted packmates to even see the pups when they're newborn (usually only her mate).
So; how much humanity does Mom retain? There's your answer.

Same answer. Humans are more caring of their young, even their runts. Werewolves living in a human society would adopt human values toward their children. Wolves kill runts because they won't usually survive and yet require as much care as the healthy pups. Wolves don't have the resource net humans do.RedEye wrote:I suspect that would be related to how much human intelligence the Female retained, as well as the father.

Okay: This involves the resources available to the parents. In the case of limited resources, not only the runt would die, so might any pup that the parents felt they couldn't raise to self-sufficiency. Better to let that soul have another shot at a decent life than cripple it by not giving it enough to eat as an infant.
If the resources permit, then everybody gets a shot at survival.
And once again, its the degree of retained Human viewpoint that's going to make the difference.

I've read a few series' where werewolf females cannot carry a pregnancy to term because the Change is too harsh on their system and on the little one. Of course, one answer is to not shift during that period (if you even know about it before you miscarry *wince*), but the authors of those series' all felt the Change was something that you had to do periodically, whether it was tied to the moon or not.RedEye wrote:The mother would be best off giving birth in her Wulf form, just from watching a dog give birth to puppies you can see that there is a lot less difficulty involved than even an "easy" human birth.
Would the baby be able to Shift? I suspect that uncontrolled shifting might happen (like growing fur when said infant got cold) but there isn't a lot of extra energy available at that time of life for such activities.
I still hold out for puberty-triggered Controlled Shifting, though. Remember, at that time, the nymph-human is changing to its adult form; and controlled shifts are more adult-seeming than childlike.
I always did feel the answer to their problems was just remaining as a wolf the full time, if they could (in one such series, they tended to slip back to human form while knocked out meat drunk). Not only is the birth likely to be easier, but the gestation period is relatively shorter, too!

We went over this: Basically, it's the baby that runs momma's body for nine months. The fetus is protected to the point that physically they're almost impossible to damage without gross physical damage to the mother, too.
Look it up in search, it's all there.

Well, taking Fullmoonstar's answer into the mix, there's part of the thing; usually the mother's genetic structure decides how long she'll gestate. Then, too; a human baby has more stages of development to go through, so that part takes longer, too.Confidential wrote:One thing that tends to confuses me...
Human - Avg. 9 months
Canines - Avg. 2 months
How come a pregnant lycanthrope has to take full 9 months just like humans?
It might even be that a Werewolf mother-to-be takes longer than a simple human to gestate; since again, there is more development required for a metamorph than a monomorph.
There are really all sorts of possible answers; pick what works for you and stick with that.

Although Redeye has an interesting point that a werechild could actually take longer. In the end, it's down to author preference until the real 'wolves among us decide to go public so Unc'ie Sam can't blackmail them into the CIA

it depend on the mothers blood, the more wolf she has the shorter the baby could grow, the more human she has the longer the baby could grow. there are other thoughts about this but that is what i believe.Fyriewolf wrote:okay now I understand everything. thanks you guys. but for the pregancy months I don't get a little. to me werewolves ar emore wolves than humans. how's that possible?
