It seems that a lot of arguments and misunderstanding happens not because of what was said or what was meant so much as what we think each other means. We can think of particular examples, even on friendly boards like this one.

Makes sense. I find emoticons are helpful for portraying tone, although they too can be misinterpreted.

Yeah, text is a terrible medium for tone.

yup, it's hard to enturprate e-mails, posts, and IM's, even with these

they can only do so much

Actually with the emoticon it helps you most of the time. Cause you can tell wether they are sincere or sarcastic.
