Red Riding Hood mod in Torchlight
For the uninitiated, Torchlight is the spiritual sequel to FATE, and there's some quite astute people accusing both games as Diablo ripoffs, because the company that makes them totally doesn't comprise of former Blizzard staff that worked on the first and probably second Diablo titles. The main draw that's got me hooked in this game isn't the generic standalone vanilla version of the game, but rather the fact that the staff generously provided as many modding tools to mod the game with as possible, though I do think they provided a bit too little of the models and animations. Well, beggars can't be choosers.
The first thing I thought of to modding Torchlight is to bring in Red Riding Hood, before adding even more fairy tale characters. In case I get called an objectivist misogynyst asshole for making her look so sexualized, this particular version of Red Riding Hood is supposed to be very vaguely inspired by Bayonetta, who can summon dragons from her clothes which is made from her hair, aside from the fact that she has guns on both hands and both feet. And Red also has a backstory, if a somewhat tragic one.
So, here's a render of her. The textures are mostly flat and the polygon count is extremely low, so yes, it does kinda look like s***, Morkulv. Can't be helped since it's my first model ever and it's gone through 5-6 major revisions, and I'm sick of revising it during production as I've been working on this for 6 constant months with sick days, sleep-deprived days, and my nervous breakdown by the 6th month (No, that's not a joke.), so any major changes will take place post-production.
And here's her only animation for the moment. I haven't gotten around to making other animations just yet.

Haha. I don't think it looks like sh*t at all, I actually think it looks pretty good. Her feet look a little weird to me, but other then that it looks nice.
Kinda reminds me of a Quake 2 model for some reason (in a good way, lol).

I will sadly admit that I have yet to play Torchlight and I have owned the damn game for about 6-7 months now.

Re: Red Riding Hood mod in Torchlight
Looks like I caught the bad habit of making keyframes as I go along; The right leg still bugs me. People usually make the keyframes before they do inbetweens. Oh well. If you're wondering why the animation looks choppy, it's because this is playing at 25% speed - the animation is so fast that this netbook only refreshes some of the frames.
Next will be one of the hardest animations I've yet to do: running.

See, werewolves running human-style digitigrade ISN'T as goofy as traditionalists make them out to be.

This is turning out to look pretty good. The animations are pretty smooth, too. Interesting how the bit of stuff on the arms folds out into an actual bow.

First batch of unarmed melee attacks. To show my disdain for all those western hack-n-slashers making player characters have unarmed attacks that look like drunken brawling, instead I'm taking cue from FF12 and how Vaan and even Penelo knows how to move without a weapon.

Nice. I especially like the bow and arrow thingy.

Re: Red Riding Hood mod in Torchlight
I didn't like the original so I made a new one from scratch.
I'll be taking a break from this to catch up with some things. I'm not sure when I'll pick it up again, but life's a b**** that way.

Muchos better. Hey, if there's anything I can do to help let me know. Though, I'll probably be useless since I'd have to learn new whatever witchery you're using for this.

Re: Red Riding Hood mod in Torchlight
Had to start over from scratch, and this time it's smoother sailing, though I have to use far more polygons due to not having much of a choice.
Once the paintjob's done, it's back to animations. Might rework existing animations before adding new ones, and this time I'm thinking of drawing out the keyframes first.

I'll probably regret posting this, but those are some huge boobs...

I came a long way, but now I'm pretty much back where I left off with my previous version. Enjoy the simulated breast physics.

Re: Red Riding Hood mod in Torchlight
Nice job. What kind of mod is it going to be anyway? Like a total conversion or something smaller?

Re: Red Riding Hood mod in Torchlight
Just a player character conversion. I can't get into environments just yet until I get this thing done and sorted with.
I'm also thinking of putting this on a standby shelf when I need to use it in Unity3D.

Re: Red Riding Hood mod in Torchlight
It would make a cool total conversion. If I had the game and knew how to help, I would. I love modding, and leveldesign is my 'specialty'.
