:D I was aiming at that all the under agers here. I started drinking early too, although only by a year, but have since decided that's dumb. But I never did it due to pressure, I chose to for fun.

Haha thanks for clearing that up, I meant what I said in a joking sort of way if you know what I mean. All those are worthy DVD's. I'm not well versed on them, I do know them, have liked the songs I've heard, but I haven't yet bought a CD...I have many bands like that! I don't really download at all so Id have to buy them. I dont know how to download anymore. :(

I don't download stuff either... mainly because of having a crap connection... but I'm still finding interesting groups I hadn't previously thought much about... e.g. until about a year ago all I knew of Cream was "The Sunshine Of Your Love" (all right music I suppose)... and then they started playing "White Room" (which I liked a lot) regularly on Hauraki... as soon as I found out who it was I went out and got their greatest hits and there's a lot of other good stuff there I didn't realise they were responsible for. I listen to a wide variety of stuff but the things I actually buy tend to be the less well known groups (i.e. the ones I can't rely on rock radio to hear)...

Haha Nacho :headbang:

Midnight:

The radio doesn't bother to grace us with the band names of what is playing, anyway. -Pulls a face- Frankly it annoys me. They used to, but not anymore. It's all about lame talk shows now...

:x

I generally get music off friends, recommended stuff, whether it's well known or totally obscure, or off movies or other places, like video games sometimes which have amazing orchestral pieces. I also get bands off other bands :P for example, I got UFO off Slash from Guns n Roses.

You can recommend what you like to me, it'd be hard for me to get a hold of a lot of it though, but I could always try Youtube, they have a lot of obscure stuff on there I've noticed. Weird stuff. haha! That way I can hear it and decide whether a CD is worth buying I guess.

Ahhh White Room. Classic song that. And he didn't play it when I saw him. Damnit!

Tell me about it... I eventually had to catch a few words and ask around people who know their classic rock a lot better than I to find out what it was. A few days later they finally play a different version and announce it as "Eric Clapton playing the Cream standard "White Room" " or something like that.

A lot of what I get are CDs with some connection to other stuff I own... e.g. I got my Roy Montgomery CD because he wrote some of the better songs on the Pin Group CD, which I got because I found out it that Pin Group were yet another Peter Stapleton group and that Peter Stapleton co-wrote most of the Terminals songs, and I've been a fan of the Terminals ever since I saw "Uncoffined" on "Radio with Pictures" some time around 1987... I miss "Radio with Pictures", by the way... it ran from the late 1970s until the late 1980s on Sunday nights and was a predominantly "edgy" or "alternative" music show.

A lot of my musical tastes were formed while I was at high school (1981 - 1985), which was a fairly dire time for pop music... the biggest selling song of 1981 was a godawful thing called "Stars on 45", about which the less said the better. That seemed to drive a lot of people into seeking out alternative music... in that year two posthumously released Joy Division singles each debuted at #1 in the charts, and The Clean recorded their first single for something like $50 and watched it sell enough to make the Top 20.

I'm always wary of recommending music to people in case they go to all the effort to track down the stuff I like (which tends to be rather obscure) just to find out they don't really like it after all. Currently the rock CDs I've been really enjoying have been: 3Ds, "The Venus Trail"; Buzzcocks, "Singles Going Steady"; The Clash, "London Calling"; Doublehappys, "Nerves"; Hunters and Collectors, "Under One Roof"; Jethro Tull, "Very Best Of"; Joy Division, "Permanent"; King Crimson, "Red"; Metallica, "Black Album"; Midnight Oil, "Head Injuries"; Schnell Fenster, "OK Alright A Huh Oh Yeah"; Straitjacket Fits, "Melt"; Toy Love, "Cuts"; Verlaines, "Over the Moon". (This is just the "rock" lot... I also listen to a lot of more pop sort of music and a lot of weird sort of stuff...)

I've honestly never been a great fan of Eric Clapton, although his work with Cream is all right... I can appreciate intellectually how talented he is, but for some reason his music doesn't reach my heart. I can't explain it and it's not meant to be a slight on his talent. What I like most about Cream are Jack Bruce's songwriting and Ginger Baker's drumming.

Looks at how far he's gone off topic... oops, sorry about that... I must stop getting into conversations about music...

Hahaha yeah I was drunk I don't remember posting Re:. I might have copied and pasted it by accident, or didnt post any topic and it did it itself, or Andy put it there.

------

Eh -sighs- Im in a pretty crappy mood, so Im probably going to be short with this, I have to go and eat anyway, got to put some quick meal on. Been at Uni until late. ... Besides you haven't specifically asked me questions so I have nothing I have a huge need to answer :P, just read it and took it in.

Some good bands there, and some I don't know too well. I could dig them up, somehow. Im not sure you'd like many of the bands I listen to, well some, I guess since I also listen to a very huge and weird range of music. I think anything by Michael Schenker is a must, though. He ranges from pure rock n roll to blues to metal to folk/acoustic. Interesting, amazing, rare fellow.

And oh get the song Southern Cross by Black Sabbath (Dio days) holy [censored] it is an amazing song! That entire album (Mob Rules). It's just a very powerful song.

Heh anyways I have to go and eat. :D Sorry for the short and not very interesting in places reply.

The only sort of music I have a real aversion to is country and western... the sound of it makes me want to break things. A couple of artists I like get uncomfortably close at times (Paul Kelly in particular) but manage to keep to the musical side of things for the most part.

The only Black Sabbath song I can remember off the top of my head is "Paranoid" although I've probably heard others in my time; and the only song called "Southern Cross" I remember is by Crosby Stills and Nash so it's probably not the same song...

Sounds interesting already... how does his music compare with (for example) Richard Thompson's?

Can't say I know, I can't recall any Richard Thompson songs off the top of my head, at all.

Schenker: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUk-1QtjVRY

The above song :D Is AMAZING. I always play it on guitar when feeling epic. The riffs and solos and stuff are just so fun to play, feel so good.

Not sure where to get his acoustic stuff unless you download it from http://www.michaelschenkerhimself.com ... click 'Thank u 4' and he has two there available for a download. They are gorgeous, beautiful.

Until about a year or so back the only Richard Thompson songs I knew were "Persuasion" (which he co-wrote with Tim Finn and which also turned up on a Tim Finn CD) and "Walking On A Wire" (which I have no idea where I remember it from). Did a quick hunt of the internet and found a few pages with quick samples:
http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/a ... 42,00.html (song I like best: "Razor Dance")
http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/a ... 57,00.html (song I like best: "Shoot Out The Lights")
my favourite song of his is one called "Can't Win"... took a while to find a sample of it but there's one here: http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/music/a ... -4,00.html but it's not a particularly good choice of half-minute (of a nine-minute live performance)... it's a quiet bit that just starts leading into the first chorus.
There's definitely a pronounced folk-rock influence in his work (particularly in some of his songs... "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" could have been written in the 19th century except that they didn't have Vincent motorcycles back then) but for the most part the emphasis of the music is on "rock"...

And grrrrrrrr... I need to get a decent connection... would love to hear some of Michael Schenker's stuff some time.

And in case you're wondering what is some of the "weirder" stuff I listen to... I've also had a quick browse of Amazon and found some samples of Roy Montgomery: http://www.amazon.com/324-E-13th-Street ... 37-0007821 ; and a particularly weird CD by Robert Scott: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005 ... F8&s=music , interestingly the editorial review for that last one compares my favourite songs on his CD ("Fog and Wind" and "When Shade Was Made") with a band called Yo La Tengo about which I know nothing... must try to give them a listen some time.

Message sent. And I feel your pain about computer (and/or internet) speed... I may have to go to Amazon or that Artist Direct site to see if they have any Michael Schenker samples (although considering that Amazon actually have stuff as obscure as Roy Montgomery samples that shouldn't be too difficult...) they only take about five of minutes to load each sample (half a minute of poorly reproduced music is still much better than none at all...)
