CGI can look realistic, but usually not looking like it belongs in a physical real universe (too perfect) not enough texture, ect..

The idea of a "best" race or heirarchy is what I feel ruins alot of these mixed monsters versions.

Personally if all the monsters know about each other and have this secret society connection hidden from humanity thing going on then YES it distracts from the story. It becomes another Buffy/Angel, kids show thing like Jake Long or Juniper Lee, or Men in Black with monsters deal.

I never understood the hair palm thing in the folklore. while wolves have fur between their "fingers" for warmth the equivalent area to the palm has pads.

Now that would be a weird trait if it remained in human form, to have pads on one's hands. try explaining those (uh really thick black calusis)

Well, there is an exception to this idea in Teen Wolf in that the werewolves were good in that movie but man oh man did the designs look fugly. But that's probably the lone exception.

I'd have to disagree, they didn't look "evil nasty" they just looked goofy, none threatning goofy for the comedy ...

I prefer werewolves that go back and forth, to be that makes them "werewolves" those that are stuck to me are "beast men" more like ogres or trolls that used to be human but were cursed to permanently be a monster.

In movie and such I have noticed that when a werewolf is good it tends to look better.

if its evil its ugly, and if its simply a curse tormented soul it tends to be inbetween.

Would this be a reflection of the cursed own mind, the strain having that effect on the person. or just rejet this concept ...

Honestly most of this type I don't like, but I can see how it could work.
